Bias-Motivated Incidents and Reporting
Reports to CA vs Hate

A hate crime is a legal definition, referring to criminal acts committed because of one or more actual or perceived protected characteristics. A hate incident is motivated by bias against another person’s actual or perceived characteristics, but it may not constitute a crime be or pursued as a criminal case. The data presented here include some acts that would be classified as hate crimes, as well as other acts that may not be classified as criminal legal violations but do meet the definition of a hate incident.
CA vs Hate collects all reports of hate from those who submit them, and connects everyone who reports an act of hate to resources and support when they request it.
